Child Images or Linked Images are Images linked to a System Image and updated at the same time. Child Images could be updated with the System image but could be updated independently aswell.

This allows for the following use cases.

Linked Image Zones (Zones which update with their host. This keeps the unstable ioctls in sync in illumos land)
Instances. (Say you have a gigantic server and host 20 PostgreSQL databases on it with different server versions. All updated independently.)
